This summer, we have the pleasure of welcoming five summer interns to The Family Tree. Audrey Graham and Alfonzo Henderson come to us by way of Summer Communities of Service. Mariah Allen comes to us by way of Freedom School Partners. Bailey Igoe will join us for two weeks mid-summer from Knollwood Baptist Church. Kelia Hagens, an alumni youth and previous intern, will return for a second summer of internship as well. Each intern has their own set of gifts and experience that make welcoming them a real treat.
Mariah Allen is an Elementary Education major at North Carolina A&T. She will be serving as a SAIL intern at The Family Tree Freedom School this summer. This is her third year as a servant leader intern for Freedom School. The first two years, she was assigned to the Sedgefield Elementary site. We are happy to welcome her to our site this year. Mariah jumped in to family life here. She’s already joined us for several family meals and an outing with the Jarrell boys and Grandmother Jarrell to the Raptor Center. Mariah likes to sing and is in the choir at NC A&T. She is excited about singing the Freedom School song and energetically leading the daily cheers and chants at Harambee.
We are so glad to be welcoming Mariah into our home this summer. Her joy, kindness, and open heart are contagious. We hope you will be able to meet Mariah when you volunteer for Freedom School or perhaps also at a family or community meal at The Family Tree.
