We left Selma in the afternoon and drove a looooooooong way on what seemed like very deserted roads to Gulf Shores, Alabama. It just so happens that a church member from SouthPark Christian Church has a niece who lives in the Gulf Shores area, so she hooked us up with dinner when we arrived after dark. [Thanks!] We settled into our hotel [Thanks to hotel points donors!] and got a good night’s rest after enjoying the swimming pool and other hotel amenities.
In the early morning, we awoke to thunder. Every day of our trip had been hot and sunny….until now. Our middle name is flexible, so we made do. First, we headed to the beach souvenir shops. Then, we decided that we were going to get wet anyway, so we might as well go swim in the waves and play in the rain. With laughter, everyone jumped over waves, dug in the sand, and swam in the water. With the help of some very nice public bathrooms, we managed to change into dry clothes and pack our wet ones up tightly. After a few hours, we hopped back in the car and started off on another long drive to Koinonia Farms in Americus, Georgia.
